How to Unlock the Child Lock on a TV
The child lock on a TV can be a wonderful thing. A parent sometimes cannot be present for the duration of a kids' show, so the child lock ensures they can't watch programs that are off limits. The lock can, however, cause unwanted trouble--if it gets accidentally turned on and you don't know the code, you can find yourself unable to fully enjoy the full range of available television stations. Follow a few easy steps you'll be back to watching regular TV in no time.
Instructions
Locate the manual for your television. Though slightly embarrassing, accidentally turning on the child lock to a TV is a common problem. The section In the manual about how to set the child lock feature will also explain how to unlock it.
Try a few "universal methods" for unlocking the child lock. Some televisions have a universal code built in for disabling the child lock --no matter what your code is. A common code is "0000."
Unplug your television for a few minutes. The internal battery of the TV is what helps remember what your code. If the TV is unplugged for an extended period of time, it clears the internal memory, which in turn will reset your child lock code.

JENSEN TV UNLOCK
Many Jensen TVs have a parental lock that can be set to stop children from watching certain television shows or channels. In order to activate or deactivate the controls, you have to know the four-digit code or parental lock pass code. If you forget the pass code or if the lock gets set accidentally, you can still unlock the TV.
• Turn on the TV using the remote control. In most cases, you will need the original Jensen remote to unlock the TV if you aren't sure of the unlock code. You can purchase an original replacement online if necessary.
• Look at the screen. If you see a red key on the bottom of the screen, press "Function" and "Mute" on the remote at the same time. This will unlock the channel. Do this if you want to bypass the lock to watch a certain show or channel while leaving the TV locked. All other channels will remain locked and the TV will lock again when it is turned off.
• Unlock all of the channels on the TV by entering 0711 or 3308. These are the Jensen factory reset codes that will reset the TV to the original factory settings. By doing this, you will loose any information that you have stored in the TV, such as channel labels and schedules. You will have to program the TV again by going through the entire initial set up.
•Call the technical support service number in your owner's manual if neither of those codes work. A technician can help you troubleshoot the television as the problem may not be the parental lock feature. Have the model number and serial number of the TV available when you call.
• Take your television to a TV repair shop if neither of the codes work and the TV locked by itself while it was turned on. In this case, the TV may need to be rewired.

How to Program Dish TV Remote TV Codes
The Dish TV remote control allows you to program the TV, VCR and DVD codes so that all you need is one remote. Most TVs can be programmed into the remote using specific codes in the Dish TV remote manual. But if you don't have a manual or list of codes, you can program the remote manually.
Instructions
Using Programming Codes
Find the TV code for your TV in the list from the Platinum Remote Control User's Guide (See References). For example, if you have a Kenwood TV, the three possible codes to try are 506, 573 and 712.
Press the "TV" button on the remote. Hold down the button until the "Sat," "VCR" and "Aux" buttons light up. Release the "TV" button and it will be flashing.

Press the power button to turn off the TV and turn it back on again. If the code was correct, the TV will turn off and on. If the TV doesn't power down or back on, follow Step 6.

Press the # key on the remote when the TV turns off to lock in the code.
How to Remove an RCA TV Child Lock
RCA TVs come with a child lock capability called V-Chip. It's a parental control system which allows you to block programs and films by content, age-based ratings and the ratings which come with the movies. The parental control is a code, sent by the broadcaster to your television. The V-Chip will not work if the broadcaster doesn't send the control, or if the parental controls are switched off or unlocked. The controls are set up in the TV's main menu. The default is off.
Instructions
From the main menu choose "Parental Controls;" it's option six.
Choose the first option, V-Chip TV Rating Limit, and using the arrow keys and the OK button on the remote, scroll through until the TV-MA rating appears. Press the right arrow button to move the highlight over to the "Status" field and toggle to "View." Press the OK button. This will set the age-based ratings to Mature.
From the Parental Controls menu, select the second option, V-Chip Movie Ratings Limit and change the rating to TV_MA and the "Status" to "View."
From the Parental Controls menu select the third option, V-Chip Unrated Program Block and select item one, which will be "View."
Select the fourth option, which is "Channel Block." Highlight the Channel field and using the channel up and down buttons, go through and check they are all set to 'View." Any set to "Block" will need to be toggled back to View.
Lock the controls to activate the changes using item six on the "Parental Controls" menu.
General Procedure to Unlock most of the TVs
Most TVs have a parental control lock that can be set to prevent children from watching specific television shows. In order to activate or deactivate the controls, you need to know the four digit security code or parental lock control password. If you forget the number you chose or if the lock gets set accidentally, it is still possible to unlock the TV.
Instructions
Turn on the TV and grab the remote. In most cases, you will need the original remote to unlock the TV if you aren't sure of the unlock code. If you don't have the original remote, you will need to purchase one.
Look at the screen. If you see a blank screen with a red key on the bottom of the screen, press 'Function' and 'Mute' at the same time. This should unlock the channel. This is an option for people who want the TV to stay locked but, want to be able to bypass the lock to watch a certain show or channel. All other channels will remain locked and the TV will fully lock when it is turned off.
Unlock all of the channels on the TV by entering the factory reset code. There are three main reset codes that TV manufacturers set. These are 0711, 6688 and 3308. Try each one until you find the one that works. This will reset the TV to original factory settings. When you do this, you will loose any information that you have stored in the TV, such as favorite channels, automatic timers and the clock. You will have to go through the full initial set up.
Call the technical support service number in your owner's manual if none of those codes work. A technician can help you troubleshoot the television because the problem may not be the locking control. When you call, make sure that you have the model number and serial number of the TV.
Take your television to a TV repair shop. In some cases, a professional who access to wiring diagrams for your television set may have to rewire certain components in order for the television to unlock. This is usually the case when the TV locks by itself while it is on.
What Does the Red Key on the Screen Mean for an Apex TV?
When a red key appears in the lower left corner of your Apex television screen, the set's V-chip is engaged, preventing you from watching restricted content. You can override parental controls and reset your television's pass code with your remote.
Parental Lock
The Apex prompts you to enter a 4-digit code when you set up parental controls. You can block programs according to their MPAA ratings or their content designations, such as V for violence or S for sexual situations.
Disabling the Lock
You can override parental controls on most Apex models by simultaneously pressing the F and mute buttons on the remote control. If you own Apex models GT2011J or GT2011S, hold the remote's display button for ten seconds. The red key will vanish and the V-chip will unblock your program.
Override Codes
Apex's default parental lock control code is 6688, so if you haven't set a new code, entering 6688 will remove the red key and unblock your program. If you've set a new password and forgotten it, entering 3308 will reset the code and unblock your program.
